Eye area - eyelashes and eyelids

Start by cutting 2 eyelids from ultra suede with the help of the template provided in the pattern.

To make a template: (If you want to add eyelids to an existing bear), as a rule, measure the eye you'll be covering from side to side (this is the diameter of the eye). Then make a template from cardboard that looks like a semi-circle. The straight edge should be double the diameter of the eye, and the height should be the diameter of the eye. (i.e. if the eye measures 10mm, make the template 20mm x 10mm).

Place a thin layer of glue on the straight edge of the eyelid

Fold the edge and glue it together Do the same with the other eyelid. Set aside

I use self adhesive eyelashes that are longer than the eyes on the bear (sometimes double the length, as I can get 2 sets out of 1).

Cut one of the eyelashes in half (or the length of the diameter of the eye of your bear).

With the help of a pair of fine point tweezers, peel one of them and place it in a slight angle half way on the bear's eye.

With the help of the tweezers press the eyelash in place, making sure they're well and truly stuck from side to side (if you find the adhesive is a little dry, use a very small amount of clear glue to help it stick to the eye).

With a pair of tweezers, hold one of the eyelids in one hand while you place a thin layer of acetone based craft glue on the back of the eyelid

Place it on the eye, making sure it covers the edge of the eyelashes that is glued to the eye

. With the tip of the tweezers tuck all curve edge behind the eye

If the eyes look too sleepy, push the eyelashes and eyelid up with the help of the tweezers (as shown on the photo below).

Place the other set of eyelashes on the other eye, making sure it's in a angle (high on the side of the bridge of the nose, and low on the outer side of the face). Repeat the rest of the procedure as per other eye.

Here's the final result

  7. Hi Monica,

this was just what I was looking for. Thank you for sharing your experience und for writing those extraordinary helpful tutorials. This is what you usually do not find in books but what makes your creatures more lively.
Yesterday I attached my first lashes and I am astonished how they turned out. Still I need more practising but thanks to your help I am on a good way.

Thanks a lot and hopefully you share even more tipps and tricks although you don't get much reward except our thanks.

    Best wishes from Austria
    Maggie

  9. I found this blog purely by accident. I was unsure if you have or had offered the teddy bear pattern. I did not see it any where. If you did and I missed it could you let me know how to download it?
    Thank you Pauline
